Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering spoke about the stages of his professional path and the relevance of engineering education

This year, the largest university in the region celebrated 60 years since the founding of the Polytechnic Institute - Vyatka State Technical University - Vyatka State University. The history of KirPI - VyatGTU - VyatSU, as you know, is marked by great achievements in the training of engineering personnel for enterprises in the Kirov region and the country.

Anton Fominykh, Dean of the Electrical Engineering Faculty of the Polytechnic Institute of Vyatka State University, spoke about the enduring value of engineering education and his own professional path.

So how did it all start? Answering this question, Anton Anatolyevich recalled his school years:

- I was born in Kirov, studied at secondary school No. 47. Childhood and youth were associated with Krasnaya Gorka, a young, developing area. My parents played an active role in the life of the youth housing complex, they were always on the move, in the center of events. I really wanted to be like them. I tried to learn without causing trouble, to be a leader and at the same time do something useful for my family, friends, school.

After graduating from school in 2004, Anton Fominykh applied to the construction department of Vyatka State University. Many medalists entered there, the competition was high - as a result, Anton was a little short of points. Failure was the starting point on the path to calling and success.

A.A. Fominykh explained:

-  What did not work out, on the contrary, directed me in the right direction, into the hectic life of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. For me, it has become truly energetic, fully consistent with the energy that has been in me since childhood. In addition to studying, I had many other activities. I became the head of the group, went in for sports: cross-country skiing (even at school I received the first adult category in them) and table tennis.

Further more. Anton Fominykh became seriously interested in science. He said:

- Interest in science arose after meeting in the second year with his future wife, at that time a medical student. She, being also a sophomore, was engaged in scientific research at the Research Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, she did it very enthusiastically. I helped with information processing. I liked it so much that I soon came to the conclusion: I want to do science myself.

Anton Fominykh expressed his desire to Professor Anatoly Ivanovich Izotov, Head. Department of Electrical Machines and Apparatus. Having tested the ward, Anatoly Ivanovich began to connect him to scientific developments, including those implemented at the site of the Lepse plant. In senior years, Anton Fominykh deeply immersed himself in the research topics of the department, in parallel with his studies, he worked there as a laboratory assistant.

Having successfully completed his studies in 2009, Anton Fominykh entered graduate school.

- In 2012, I graduated from graduate school, under the guidance of Anatoly Ivanovich, I conducted research on large electrical machines. He worked on the theme not only in Kirov, but also in Tver and Cherepovets. The result was the introduction of lubricating brushes into trial operation. And, of course, the dissertation that I defended at the Moscow Power Engineering Institute in 2016, - said Anton Anatolyevich.

He continued his professional career as a teacher, associate professor of the Department of Electrical Machines and Apparatus, and then headed it. After some time, a talented employee was appointed dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. Anton Anatolyevich shared:

- Unfortunately, we sometimes come across a stereotype that engineering is a difficult, uninteresting and low-paid profession. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and, in general, the Polytechnic Institute of Vyatka State University are trying to destroy this idea: it does not correspond to reality at all. We explain this by working with students in schools. We communicate even with younger schoolchildren, showing them clearly: an engineer is a creator; First of all, the creator of technology. Let's say we want to turn on the light remotely - and we do it in front of the guys. They see: an engineer can do a lot, the main thing is desire.

We try to show the prospects of the future profession to high school students and, especially, students through interaction with enterprises, through excursions, project activities. If you look at what has been happening at the faculty and at the institute over the past two years, you can see that the guys are involved in the educational process precisely through scientific and engineering creativity.

Today, according to the dean, up to 60 percent of senior students are already employed at enterprises, primarily defense industry. Combining work with educational activities, the guys improve their professional skills and earn.

Anton Anatolyevich expressed his conviction:

- Russia is a great country, and a great country needs independent technologies, independent production. Young cadres are needed to ensure technological sovereignty. This also applies to the power industry as one of the key industries.

The interviewer also remarked:

- A modern engineer must know not only the laws of physics and electrical engineering. Other requirements are also imposed on him: the ability to communicate with other participants in the production process, to correctly build his speech, to declare the results of research. ETP students master these and other universal competencies within the framework of the "nuclear" program in the 1st and 2nd years. It happens in a lively, non-boring form.

Anton Fominykh summarized:

- Currently, studying with us is cool, interesting and promising!

By the way, thanks to the personal example of the dean, table tennis has become a traditional activity at the faculty. Anton Anatolyevich joked:

- Students know that to get a credit in materials science, you have to beat the dean.

And then he added:

- Seriously, I am glad that, in addition to studying, the guys are improving in sports.

Recently, Anton Fominykh took part in a scientific stand-up dedicated to the 650th anniversary of the city of Kirov. The applause of the audience, among which were students and teachers of the ETF, was the best evidence of a warm, respectful attitude towards the dean.

Anton Fominykh shares his indisputable merits with everyone around him. He speaks with gratitude and love about his native faculty - a team of proven, experienced professionals.

Concluding the conversation, Anton Anatolyevich emphasized:

- Vyatka State University is a wonderful platform for self-realization of students and young researchers. My whole life is built directly with the Vyatka State University - the university that brought me up, provided such opportunities. I am grateful to Valentin Nikolaevich Pugach for supporting me. The rector was at my pre-defense and gave valuable advice, which helped me a lot.

Our university is a university where you want to study and work!
